What languages do you speak?

My native language is Russian and I speak English fluently.

How to pronounce your name?

K-s-e-n-i-a (I also, don’t mind spelling as Xenya, Xenia, Kseniia, Ksenija, Ksenya, Kseniya, etc). I like all variants of spelling.

Xenia is a feminine name of Greek origin. Translating to “guest” and “stranger”, “hospitality”. While I don’t mind any kind of spelling, it is really weird for me when people use American/Australian prounciation for the letter ‘X’ as ‘Zi’, I understand that this is a rule for American alphabet, but the old Greek letter ‘X’ is prounced as Ks, not Z. So yes, “Xena the warrior princess” supposed to be pronounced as Ksena, not Zena.

These names considered to have the same origin, but are different from my name: Oxana, Aksinya, Senja, Zena. I have a couple dimunative names which my family and friends use.

Portu, is it a real surname?

• No, it’s my nickname. It comes from my love to Portuguese language (which I don’t know, but I have hope to learn it one day).

Do you work remotely or on-site?

I can do both, but I have a huge experience to work remotely, and it has pros and cons for me.

Where do you live?

• I prefer to not disclose my location, and also from time to time I change it. So, if it’s crucially important maybe I can disclose it though

I have messengers and phone, and I strongly prefer for business purpose to use only my email and maybe linkedin. And for online meeting I use google meeting, zoom, etc.

How much money do you make now or in the past?

• I am glad that some people in industry share their numbers. I do not disclose this information. If you have description about the project/job need to be done and money range, I can figure out will it work for me or not. If you HR and need to put some number in the record with my resume, you can write 0 or 1, it doesn’t matter.

You know techology X, I am interested in techology Y, can you learn it?

• I can. I am pretty sure, every person who possess average intellegence can learn anything. From my perspective learning anything new is all about having a good motivation and explanation, and ability to do composition and decomposition.

What is the domain you are interested to work now?

• I am always interested in teaching mathematics and I have a lot of fun with GenerativeAI right now. But overall, I have very diverse background ( functional prgramming, python development, blockchain, SAP ERP ).

• Is it payable? Unfortunately I can’t invite plumbers to fix pipes without paying, but instead give them my word that they will work for a very promising person/project.

What drives you?

• I like to solve tasks, I always had and will have passion for mathematics. I see something which doesn’t work properly, I see in my imagination how I can fix it, or remodel the essence of the task completely. So, I see every problem as an opportunity. At the same time I am humble and confident person, who always respects others. I want to understand the motivation of a person, I will work with. Here is mine: in the 4-th century BC, Alexander the Great was the richest man in the world, he had everything and now (almost) every person has a better quality of life than he did,we have education, medicine, the internet, mobility. Even though we are not the richest people in the world (from a money perspective), we are living with different quality of life. I want that the nearest future compares to now will be like 21 first century compare to 4-th century. That is my big ambition. And I believe humankind can benefits a lot from this.

What are you looking for outside of the product for next role?

• I want to be productive in what I do, so, ideally would be combination of these:

1. having opportunity to influence the direction of the project, not having right to vote or right to change direction of the project/product can be frustrating. It’s one of basic needs of every human, to be able at least to some degree influence/control things related to you.

2. I want to like or at least respect people I am working with. This journey named life will end one day, I want to spend it with people I like.

I hope that also these people would prefer direct communication. They are able to be honest with team. Like if they don’t know they would just say that they don’t know instead of pretending. I know that in some fields, like marketing, fundraising - people often choose strategy- “Fake it until you make it”. And maybe that is tolerable or inevitable for these fields. But I am responsible for tech side, and it’s crucially important for me to know things which are real. And I really appreciate when people can go straight to the point, and be able to be concise.

3. It important to feel that your work has meaning. Also, one of basic human needs.

4. I like social interaction a lot. But at the same time I like to be productive.
